These days it seems as though a day doesn't go by that we don't hear about another fatal accident caused by a distracted driver. In April, 2010, a New York State college student died in a single car roll-over after drifting off the roadway. Police say she was driving and texting at the time. The previous month, a driver apparently reaching for a cell phone was blamed for causing a three-vehicle crash that killed a 1-year-old Minneapolis-area boy.

According to the latest figures from The U.S. Department of Transportation, approximately 6,000 people are killed and 500,000 more injured each year in accidents blamed on distracted drivers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that 80 percent of all motor vehicle accidents and 65 percent of near crashes are caused by driver distraction. So what's being done to improve driving safety?

* The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is in the process of implementing a new multi-year Distraction Plan and Research Agenda that examines whether high-visibility enforcement and media attention can reduce a driver's use of cell phones while driving.

* Twenty-one states and the District of Columbia prohibit novice drivers from using electronic communication devices (including cell phones) during the learners and intermediate stages of a three-stage graduated driver's license (GDL) program. Six states ban hand-held cell phone use for all drivers, and 19 states ban texting by all drivers.

* The Department of Transportation (DOT) recently launched a national campaign to encourage the public to get involved in ending distracted driving. "Put It Down" focuses on the key messages that drivers can't do two things at once. Learn more about "Put It Down" by logging on to www.distraction.gov.

* Auto insurance companies are now offering driving safety programs that encourage young people to become better drivers. Allstate, for example, has a Teen Safe Driving Program that offers parents five ways to protect their teen driver and themselves from the dangers on the road.

Among the important tools parents will find on the company's website: a parent-teen driving contract, articles that offer tips on how to get your teen ready for the responsibility that comes with driving and detailed information about how to save money on car insurance when you add a young driver to your policy.

The easiest way to keep costs down is to be sure you're taking advantage of all the discounts available to you. Many companies offer Good Student discounts for teenagers with good grades. Allstate even offers a safe driving bonus. Customers have the opportunity to earn up to 5 percent of their premiums for every six months of accident-free driving.

Green Data Center Plan. Tips And Ideas

Perpetually-escalating electrical costs, increasingly-shifting climate patterns, new Industry policy, as well as industry progress, in-house cost savings and a need for more electricity some of the issues that cause extra demand towards a more efficient operation in addition to improved functioning in all data centers. Data Center Design has become highly important when it comes to helping a organization more ecologically aware.

Many professionals ascertain that over the next five years greenhouse gases created by all airlines combined may well be dwarfed by those created from all data centers combined as a result extra efficient data centers are becoming more essential than at any time.

Even if there are many reasons that affect data room power efficiency, the appropriate model is a foundation to scoring a low PUE (Power Usage Efficiency) that illustrates how "environmentally friendly" a data center genuinely is.

Two valuable data center design standpoints which account straightforward deployment and the ability of responding to ever-changing industry regulations are: adaptableness and scalability. Attention to these details can make considerable savings regarding data center build and operating costs, in comparison to typical or hard-to-adapt physical infrastructure.

Data center managers and ownership can keep original equipment & engineering outlay to a controllable amount from introducing the type of strategy that allows for growing your equipment purchases as the necessity grows.

Adaptability & Scalability Benefits

Key benefits of the adaptable and scalable data room can be plentiful. Initially, the modular mechanical and electrical systems let business savings of 30-35% on the upfront build costs. Additionally, an intangible benefit of this tactic provides building managers and IT departments the possibility to quickly respond to changes in business requirements and technology. These benefits can deliver an additional 30-35% savings in operating expenses.

To realize gains from an adaptable and scalable strategy, a number of important factors ought to be considered:

1 All stakeholders in the data center project are drawn in & recognize their position, put another way corporate people who identify with past issues of the facility, IT personnel that identify with current hardware and a Chief Information Officer that understands the corporate policy.

2 Adopt consistent practices for establishing capacity of the data center. Espouse design from rack space higher for calculating the global area amount rather than traditional "square footage" to establish mandatory capacity.

3 Once the overall electrical capability is determined, the satisfactory scalable proper UPS arrangement has to be planned, based on required self-sufficiency of the data center.

4 In order to avoid cooling issues along with hot spots, the adoption of a thorough solution where the cooling apparatus is permanently situated as nearby the load as feasible, results in the benefit of less power cost and superior effectiveness of cooling units.

5 Use of standard environment measurements procedures; after all how can you improve things that aren't measured?

Taking a considered attitude towards building and managing an eco-friendly data area results in managers & executives having confidence in the potential of their high-quality investment. The result is better equipment performance and stability and efficiency fitting to the project's corporate social conscientiousness by reducing their data center carbon imprints.

Using The Power Of The Wind
More and more people are now looking for alternative ways to get electricity into their homes. And one of the most popular ways that they do this is by using the power of the wind. However, making use of wind power is often not as easy as putting a giant propeller outside your house.

When people are in trouble lacking of electricity, they broaden and do use the available natural resources. Like any source, wind power gives a lot of help. The fact that wind has a greater impact and potential in providing the vital needs of the community and most of all controlling the balance of the world. The wind power is the conversion of wind energy that turn into a useful form of energy. With this type of wind they produce an ideal source which assist and establish the great source of wind power through wind turbines, wind mills which used for mechanical power and wind pumps for water.

One of the most crucial points to consider here is, of course, the wind. No wind means no power. However, this one is not really a big issue, since wind is a constant thing, (though there are indeed spots where the wind is high, which simply mean more power). Also, there are new turbines available nowadays that can run on as low speeds such as as five miles per hour.

And you also need to consider the turbine design that you will use for your home. As of today, the horizontal axis variant (your average pinwheel design turbine) is by far, the more common one. However, more and more people are now also looking into using vertical axis turbines.

Note that each different kind of turbine has its own advantages. The horizontal axis type is easier to to build and set up. However, the vertical axis turbine gives the added bonus of being able to start at a lower speed, though it is a little bit more complex. Determine the type that will be most suitable for your home. For instance, if you have ample yard space and is in a windy region, then a horizontal type will suit you fine. On the other hand, city dwellers can easily install vertical turbines on their roofs if they have limited space.

Aside from the turbine itself, you also need to have the means to get the electricity into your home. Thus you need to get an ample amount of wiring, as well as a good power inverter to handle the distribution. One thing that you need to take note of is that wind power is quite variable, once the wind slows down, the power you get also goes down. Thus, your inverter must be able to handle the sudden changes in power output.

The last thing that you need to consider is that wind power alone might not be sufficient to power your house. As stated above, wind power is variable, so I can greatly affect your power output. Thus, it would be a good idea to set up a hybrid system that will utilize several different sources to provide power to your home.
